Choosing The Best Signage to Brand Your Construction Site
A buyer’s guide to branding your site: match banner mesh, vinyl hoarding and corflute to each surface, with costs and reuse tips.
Buyer Guide • 7 min read • Builders Signs
Site branding puts your name in view of clients, neighbours and passing traffic. Your fence and hoarding are already up for months, often facing a busy road, so branded signage keeps your project visible throughout the build. A clean, consistent site also looks more professional and helps build trust before a client calls.
Use banner mesh on temporary fencing and scaffolding, vinyl hoarding on solid walls, and corflute signs at the site entrance. There is no single best sign format: it depends on the surface you are covering and the job the sign needs to do. Most sites use all three.
This guide shows you what to use on each surface, how the materials differ and how to plan a consistent site-branding package.
Which signage for which surface?
| Site Surface | Use this | Why | Lifespan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temporary fencing | Banner Mesh | Wind passes through, so it will not act like a sail on the fence | ~2 years |
| Scaffolding | Banner Mesh (open weave) | Ventilated and fire-rated, covers a whole building | ~2 years |
| Solid hoarding or wall | Vinyl Hoarding | Solid and opaque, hides the site, premium print | ~3 years |
| Site entrance or project board | Corflute Signs | Rigid, stands on its own and is practical to replace when details change | up to 3 years |
One order can cover all three. The trick is using the right material on each surface instead of forcing one product to do everything.
Why it is worth branding your site?
Most builders see site signage as just a cost they have to cover. It can do a lot more than that.
- It creates ongoing site visibility. A branded fence sits in front of traffic for the whole project and keeps your business name visible.
- It looks professional. A clean, branded site reads as an organised, established builder. A bare fence does not.
- It builds recognition over time. When people see your name on several sites around town, they remember it.
- It supports enquiries. A clear name, phone number and "we build here" message turns passers-by into enquiries.
What to use on each surface?
Most sites are fenced with temporary panels. The right cover for them is banner mesh, a printed fabric full of tiny holes that let the wind through. That stops it acting like a sail and pulling the fence over, while still showing your branding in full colour.
- Use a tighter weave (Premium) on street-facing fences where print quality matters most.
- Use an open weave (Wind Mesh) on exposed or windy sites where keeping the fence standing matters most.
- It is fire-rated, so it meets site requirements.
This is often the largest branded surface on a site.
A scaffold on a multi-storey build is the largest sign you will ever put up, and it is visible for blocks. Open-weave banner mesh suits it: it lets wind through so it does not overload the scaffold, it is fire-rated, and it is big enough to show your brand or a picture of the finished building.
Note: A scaffold has to carry the extra wind load, so mesh on a scaffold should be checked by a competent person first. Our banner mesh install guide covers how.
If your site has a solid plywood hoarding or boundary wall, especially in a city or shopping area, use vinyl hoarding. It is a heavy, solid vinyl that completely hides the works behind it and gives you a sharp, full-colour finish at street level.
- Solid and opaque, so it hides the site instead of showing a blurry view through a weave.
- Premium print for renders, photos and large logos.
- Comes ready to fix with eyelets or tape.
Not all branding is a big wrap. The site entrance, the project board and any direction signs are usually corflute: a 5mm waterproof plastic board that stands on its own or zip-ties to a fence.
- Light, rigid and weatherproof for up to three years.
- Practical to replace when project details change.
- The right place for your project board, contact details and any “enquiries here” sign.
Corflute carries the short, must-read message. Mesh and vinyl carry the big brand.
Make sure people can read it
The surface decides the product. The design decides whether anyone reads it. A few rules apply to all three:
- One clear message. A driver going past gets about five seconds. Lead with your name and one idea, not a paragraph.
- Big and bold. Letters need to be readable from the road. As a rule, allow at least 5mm of letter height for every metre people read it from, and go bigger for traffic.
- High contrast. Dark on light or light on dark. Thin or fancy fonts disappear at a distance.
- Keep it consistent. The fence, the hoarding and the entrance sign should look like one brand, not three different signs.

Common Mistakes
- Treating site signage as only a cost and missing the free advertising
- Putting solid vinyl on an open fence, where it catches the wind
- One cramped sign trying to do branding and directions at once
- Letters too small to read from the road
- Different-looking branding on the fence, hoarding and entrance
Quick Checklist
- Listed every surface you can brand (fence, scaffold, hoarding, entrance)
- Matched each one to the right product (mesh / vinyl / corflute)
- One clear message, same look across all of them
- Letters big enough to read from the road
- Chose the right weave or material for how windy the site is
Frequently asked questions
What signage is best for branding a construction site?
It depends on the surface. Use banner mesh on temporary fencing and scaffolding, vinyl hoarding on solid walls, and corflute signs at the site entrance and on project boards. Most sites use all three so each surface does its job.
Can I advertise on my construction site fence?
Yes. A branded fence makes use of a surface that already faces traffic throughout the project. Banner mesh can keep your business name, contact details and project message visible to passers-by.
Is branded site signage worth it?
For most builders, yes. A fence can remain in place for months in front of traffic, so consistent branding gives the project long-running visibility and makes the site look professional.
What is the difference between banner mesh and vinyl hoarding?
Banner mesh has tiny holes that let wind through, which suits temporary fencing and scaffolding. Vinyl hoarding is solid and opaque, which suits solid walls where you want to hide the site and get the sharpest print. Do not put solid vinyl on an open fence, as it catches the wind.
How much does construction site branding cost?
It varies with the surface area, product, finish, quantity and installation requirements. Request a quote with your site details so the material and specification can be matched to the job.
Can Builders Signs design it for me?
Yes. Design is free, with a digital proof before printing. Send your logo and project details and our team will lay out banner mesh, vinyl hoarding and corflute so every surface matches.
